Os jovens que lêem por prazer terão muito mais probabilidades de um futuro bem sucedido, pois esse tipo de leitura revela uma predisposição para aprender ao longo da vida que é condição da mobilidade social. Procurar caminhos que incentivem a leitura por prazer é, assim, uma questão social fundamental.
Reading for pleasure at the age of 15 is a strong factor in determining future social mobility. Indeed, it has been revealed as the most important indicator of the future success of the child. That was the startling finding of research carried out by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development on education and reading, and their role in promoting social mobility. It highlights why getting teenagers to read for pleasure is more than a sepia-tinted ambition for frustrated parents. It is a fundamental social issue.
Vai realizar-se no Goethe-Institut, em Lisboa, de 28 a 30 de Junho, o festival literário Afinidades Electivas, que será um encontro entre as literaturas e culturas portuguesa e alemã. Durante três dias, doze escritores de língua portuguesa e alemã vão protagonizar sete mesas de debate sobre os temas, os livros e as memórias que unem duas tradições culturais aparentemente distantes.
No 1º encontro, dia 28 às 19h, Olga Grjasnowa e Teolinda Gersão, conversarão sobre Viver numa pátria sem fronteiras: É desejável um mundo sem fronteiras ou as delimitações são fundamentais? A fronteira mental subsiste na Europa ou estamos cada vez mais iguais? O que aprendemos com a redefinição das nossas fronteiras na década de 70 e de 80?
